Two Cases of Sheehan's Syndrome

Abstract
The authors have seen tow patients with sheehan's syndrome at our OB & GY ward of S.C.H. University Hospital. Damage to the anterior pituitary is the common cause and postpartum pituitary infarction occurs because the enlarged pituitary gland of
pregnancy becomes vulnerable to ischemia. Inability to lactate is the most common initial clinical clue, and other symptoms of hypopituitarism may unfold over months or years. There patients had a typical past history of severe postpartum
hemorrhage
associated with the hypovolemic shock prior to onset of this illness. Clinical picture revealed inability to lactate, asthenia, loss of appetite, atrophy of external genitalia and breasts, decreased libido, intolerance to cold, dry skin and so
on.
Laboratory data disclosed to the followings; reduced basal metabolic rate, decreased thyroid function test values, lowered excretion of gonadotropin hormones, adrenalcorticotropic hormone, and estrogen.
We present two cases of sheehan's syndrome with a brief review of the literatures.
